Tiger Lexicon Expands On Eve Of Chevron World Challenge

And sadly, the transcript did not reflect what he actually said, but there were witnesses!

Q.  Tiger, recently you told me that last year when you came to this event you could only hit the ball one way and still were able to take it to a playoff to nearly win.  With a year now under your belt and all the talk we've had about how more comfortable you are, what is your expectation level for this week in terms of going out there and winning?

TIGER WOODS:  Yeah, last year I was very limited in what I could do, and like I told Sean last year, I just gotta rely on my putter, and hopefully some of the pins set up and the wind sets up correctly for me because I only had that one shot at the time.  But now, I feel very comfortable maneuvering the ball both ways and changing my trajs as well, so I'm excited about this week.  It'll be interesting tomorrow.

That trajs was actually "trajies" or, "trajeys" or, well, you get the idea.

Ron Sirak reports on the Tiger's sitdown with the scribes and local TV sports anchormen a day before his foundation's event kicks off at Sherwood.

Doug Ferguson focuses on Tiger's comments about wind showing him where his swing is.

It wasn't the results, or even the scores, that pleased him. It was his play in blustery conditions — testing conditions in Sydney at The Lakes, even more demanding in Melbourne.

"Anybody who makes swing changes ... you get exposed in the wind," Woods said Wednesday. "I felt very comfortable in that wind, which was great."

Brian Wacker noted a rare moment of self-deprecating humor from Tiger.

@Tank -

Sweet deal baby! Don't jump on my KJ bandwagon too early though - I don't want his good odds getting bumped by a bunch of square money, lol.

@ Fan, quit calling Marky Mark stupid.

Marky Mark, you have to factor in the Tiger Factor. Tiger always does the things nobody thinks he can. Johnny said he'd win 50, tour players freaked out, Tiger has won over 70. Tiger said he won with his B- game, tour players freaked out, they figured out he knew what he was talking about (or was it his C+ game). I caddied at the US Amateur at Champions in 1993, college players were all pissed off because Tiger, still in the junior ranks at the time, was getting all the publicity. They said "wait until he gets to college, we'll show him"...that didn't work out too well. It's not just a regular guy we are talking about, it's Tiger Woods.

We'll see.

Now, this is a perfect time for, this: http://www.usgamuseum.com/champions/tigerwoods/

As I was doing some research, research that Gorsegolf chastised me about getting off my butt and doing, I ran across that site.

Danged if the Fan Boy Tiger Lovin' Sycophantic Urkel Society Keyboard Monkeys at the USGA haven't gone and put up a little Tiger Woods Wing on their website. Some pretty cool stuff in there.

The little slider bar at the top will take you from event to event. There's always a little video, in the artifacts you can see lots of scorecards, etc...

- Geoff, you'd like the video of Newport Country Club, course conditions perfect, lot's o' brown!

- Matchplay cards for wins against guys like Mark Wilson, Chad Campbell, Buddy Alexander, DA Points, Mark Plummer, Jerry Courville, Sean Knapp, Eric Frishette, Charles Howell III, Joel Kribel.

- And the piece de resistance, for all you that seriously dislike Tiger, the video from his maiden USGA win at Bay Hill (which I saw some of).

3 primary components to the video:

1. Tiger hitting lots of quality shots. A skinny 140lb Tiger.

2. Earl Woods interview in which he says: "There is no limit to what he can be...right now I put him on par with at least 50% of the touring pro's". (Tiger was 15 at the time)

3. And the cherry on top of the piece de resistance, an interview with Tiger. Let's just say I suspect you will conclude that Tiger had his interview style PERFECTED.....LONG before he ever turned pro.

;-)

Go crazy fellas.

I think I just saw the funniest thing ...

There's a line on Rory winning all four Majors in 2012, and it's only 250-1. Man, I gotta start running a book.

I thought this was about Tiger's interviewing! Anyway, I enjoyed him today on Colin Cowherd. Didn't seem to be quite so "canned".

Please write this down: whether it comes from broadcaster, writer, fan, coach or playing participant, the Single Most Useless comment in the entire realm of sport is the pathetic, unimportant, worthless PREDICTION.

That's right, the useless utterance by someone who purports to "see the future" and confidently states the winner of a particular event, an effort that stems less than from belief but instead is designed merely to gain attention. When these forecasts fall woefully short, the soothsayer is suddenly nowhere to be found, certainly not likely to admit his wayward selection before the world.

But by far the reason that all predictions -- even those few that, through the Law of Large Numbers actually come true -- is that NOBODY CARES.

So Tiger Woods shots a three-under 69 in the first-round of a minor-league, limited-field exhibition and the Jeanne Dixon's (famous astrologer) of the world leap out of the woodwork to predict everything from a 2012 Masters win to an eventually surpassing of Jack's majors record? Ho hum. I suggest you boys take a long ride with the Amazing Kreskin. You'll be the only people who care.

ben, you care. If you didn't you would not have taken time to write all those words. Just eats you all up, the caring, doesn't it ;-)

LK, that Bay Hill footage was July of '91...it was filmed on whatever it was that they were filming on in 1991.

@ben, you're right. Who predicted Bill's victory at the Fed-Ex Cup a year before? lol

Oops, sorry about forgetting three players, my excuse it that it was almost midnight over here... but there it is, eleven players have won multiple majors over the last 66 years.

After turning 36, that is.

@Del -

lol .. what I meant was that some of the footage literally looks like it was shot ON film (just the graininess and such) - I'm a geek for that sorta stuff is all. :) And whatever it was - it looked sweet anyhow. Thanks for the link.
