The Fall Finish...Finally

The PGA Tour's "Fall Series" is announced. See if you can read the Vijay and Chris DiMarco quotes without laughing.

I guess the Tour is devolving into a bunch of tournaments sponsored by "also ran" companies, much like the ones that sponsor Nationwide events. Fry's Electronics sponsoring two tourneys? C'mon. Maybe I should have my dinky little company sponsor an event. Finchem must be desperate.

Why in the world are they going to Scottsdale again in the fall and how did the Thunderbirds agree to this? Greyhawk?!?!

Not sure about the course in Fresno or the field, but the tickets will definitely sell-out.

Fry's is weak, but give them credit for shelling out twice when those tourneys were obviously passed over by more recognized brands.

Clearly, Fry is going about getting his venue onto the page. It's really quite smart.

I pity the poor staff, player's and caddies who have to drive from Fresno to Orlando that week.

The corpo speak is disgusting, isn't it?

I notice The Turning Stone Resort Championship is missing "and Casino" in its title.

“The Fall Series will bring its own style of drama, and we're looking forward to being the only place that will showcase it all to our viewers,” said Golf Channel Chief Executive Officer David Manougian. “The livelihoods of many players will be on the line, and whether they're trying to secure their eligibility for the next FedExCup season or grinding just to hold on to their PGA TOUR cards, these seven events will provide an entirely new reason to watch.”

I'm sorry, someone help me understand this bit. Are the Fall Series events also a qualifier for the next Fed Ex Cup, and wouldn't keeping your card mean that your already in the next seasons Fed Ex Cup points race? In other words, I was under the assumption that keeping your card meant you were in the Fed Ex Cup race the next year because you would be considered a fully exempt player on the PGA Tour the next year by keeping your card.

Interesting, Finchem never called these "Quest" events, fall series must platform better. But, then wouldn't that overlap with the fall finish, oh well!

The Grayhawk event in Scottsdale is for 1 year only then it merges with the other Fry's event and some other lucky city will get an event. Will Phil show up for this tournament?

Beyond featuring nearly two months of exciting golf through the fall, the Fall Series also plays a key role in determining eligibility for the following season’s FedExCup competition. At the time of THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola, only the 30 competitors in that event have their eligibility secured for the following year. The remainder of the top 125 fully exempt positions will be determined by season-long official earnings, and the Fall Series will offer players significant opportunities to improve their position and secure their eligibility.

Ok, so the top 30 are elgible for the next year, how many more from the top 125 are elgible?

Would this mean that Nationwide Grads and Q-School grads coming out of the fall of 06 are not going to be elgible to compete in the Fed Ex Cup race for 2007?

If that's the case, Finchem is going to have this whold FECES thang all over him! It's going to look like this; your a PGA Tour member, but your not a "REAL" PGA Tour member. I hope I'm missing something here.

Yes Stephen, then the two Fry's events will morph into one event, and so on. The next thing you know there will be a quest to find legitimate title sponsors.

Never mind Nationwide, I'd hardly call companies like Xerox, Albertsons, Cox, La Salle Bank and Kendall Automotive "also-ran" companies.
