Johnny On "Hall of Fame Guys"

Here's another nugget from Jaime Diaz's Golf Digest piece on televised golf. He's talking to Johnny Miller about his relationship with Tiger:

Miller's relationship with Woods, for example, is respectful from afar. "Tiger's not a chummy guy, and I'm not a chummy guy," says Miller. "Hall of Fame guys are not really talkative with other males, you know. But I've treated Tiger fairly, said what I had to say." Despite not having a great voice or being much of a wordsmith, Miller has an uncanny instinct for seeing what's most interesting about the game.

I guess since Tiger's never shot 63 in a major, Johnny couldn't refer to "63-in-a-major guys."

And you know, come to think of it, I've sensed the same kind of lack of chumminess at golf tournaments since my third place finish in the Golf Writer's Association of America writing contest. Golf Writer's Award winners just aren't talkative with other award winning males, you know.

does anyone mind if i take johnny behind the school, pull his shirt over his over-inflated fat head, and beat the tar out of him?

The problem is that what Johnny finds most interesting about the game is Johnny his ownself.

Geoff can you pull up the story from last year where Johnny says he doesn't feel he gets the respect he deserves from Tiger and put that next to this one?

Who is Johnny Miller? Do you see Tom Weiskopf carry on like this?

Ummm...can you please just do your job on television and otherwise please just lay low, Mr. Miller???

Oh, for the good old days when we weren't exposed to a constant stream of this stuff in between shows....{sigh}

A Weiskopf torch-bearer in our midst? Lord help us all.

If Miller's ego ever gets completely out of control, someone should dig up that old Shell match of Miller and Nicklaus at Olympic and broadcast it.

OK, I'm gonna come clean as a fan of Johnny Miller the golfer here, and the manner in which he has addressed his own problems on the course. No matter how often he has referred to his 63 at Oakmont (how the hell could anyone not named Nicklaus or Woods NOT refer to that constantly, had they done a thing like that???), he has just as often referred to his own worthlessness on the greens, and his career-long inability to handle shots under pressure. He has also expressed his gratitude towards the producer for cutting away some of the worst three-putts in "the most embarrsing moment of his career", as he referred to that Shell match at Olympic. In there words, gs, he doesnt need a reminder of it.
Why not look on the other side of the coin and be thankful for having a former major champion stick his foot in his mouth as often as he does? It only means that he is speaking his mind, which is more than can be said of most other major champions, especially those having collected their majors 1997-present...

"In OTHER words...", I mean, of course.

I enjoy watching athletes at their best. Tiger is obviously the best player to have ever played the game. Watching Tiger playing Mike Wier and is 3 matches down. It is so obvious that Johnny Miller is a jealous man. His ego is bigger than the booth he sits in. His comments about Tiger are right on the border of "fist fighting". This guy is a jerk. NBC should find a new guy.
