Images From Torrey Pines: 14th Green

The par-4 14th may be the best and worst change in the new look Torrey Pines. Best with the tree removal and embrace of the canyon, and worst because the canyon use could have been even better. The bunkers that look airlifted onto the landscape left protect balls from heading into the hazard, a feature I dread. Click to enlarge the image.

Pity the first player to hit one on the downslope on the back of the bunker, it may ricochet into the ocean ...

How long is the hole? Do the bunkers really come into play very much? The first two don't really look like they factor into your second shot at all -- unless you really miss your tee shot. . .

If the tee is where I think it is, it looks like it's about 270 yards to the bunkers, and 300 yards to get past them. Looks like there's another set of tees up and to the right, which cuts about 30 yards off those numbers.
