I'm sorry to hear that.

That is great news. I will be there for sure. Jeez...I'll be on old man by then!

On the heels of Chicago GC, it is clear that the Shoal Creek rule doesn't apply to amateur events.

I've always thought that some kind of three week, back to back to back golf jamboree on Long Island featuring the U.S. Open, Women's Open, and U.S. Amateur or Walker Cup would be something to behold.

Wow, that seems like a great and exciting idea to me. I went to the Walker Cup at Chicago just to see the course, and the match was just a bonus!

Bill V - Why the sorrow? Are you sad, thinking about what the USGA might do to NGLA? If so, I think I get it even though I might not agree. But why else any sadness?

Chuck, you are right that I think that NGLA would be better off without the attention.

Just my O.

Bill V,

What attention? The Walker Cup is a blip on the radar. It's not like the U.S. Open is coming to NGLA.
I would look at it the other way - The Walker Cup only goes to the truly best clubs. Witness Quaker Ridge, Pine Valley, Cypress Point, Chicago GC, Merion.
Has hosting the Walker Cup hurt those clubs?

Am I the only one that is stunned (and a bit disappointed)that this event is not going to The Country Club? I thought it would be a slam dunk with everything I've read over the past couple of years about TCC not wanting the U.S. Open but they would like to honor the 100th anniversary of Ouimet with something smaller like the Walker Cup......apparently not.

Any USGA attention is bad attention, and I also believe that the nod should have gone to TCC if they wanted it.

Clearly THEY didn't want the USGA mucking around their club.

It really is OK for me to feel "too bad".

Get over it.

JB,

I always figured TCC would get the 2013 Amateur.

That would be a better salute to Ouimet than the Walker Cup.

I've been fortunate enough to play NGL 4 times. Great, great, course (the only course I've enjoyed more is Crystal Downs). I can't wait to watch the Walker Cup be played there.

Chicago G.C., Merion, and now the NGLA! The USGA has really come up with some inspired selections for it's Walker Cup venues--let's hope that Pine Valley & Crystal Downs follow!
