"Where does the "w" go in awkward?"

I prefer Michael Bamberger's reasons for Tiger's Ryder Cup assistant captain invite rejection over the rationale Tiger offered. Especially the last two:

6) In the team room, I'd have to act like I feel we have a better team than the Euros. My acting's pretty good, but there are limits.

7) I have more good friends on the Euro team than the American team -- where does the "w" go in awkward?

Shame on Zinger for even offering. Tiger shouldn't have to bothered by that crap.

Surprised he didn't ask what Nicklaus' record as an Assistant Captain was.

Additional reasons:

The last time this thing was played on American soil, Donald Trump was featured in the Opening Ceremony, I got paired with Mickelson and even Michael Dukakis blushed when Hal Sutton wore a cowboy hat in suburban Detroit. After we cruised to a win on Saturday morning, my partner benched himself in the afternoon because he was tired. He is now in the Witness Protection Program.

Can hear Sergio clear his throat from Orlando.

My agent told the kid who threw my drive back down the hill on 18 in the playoff at the 2000 PGA that he could caddy for me the next time I came to Kentucky.

Bush 41 already called shotgun in MJ's cart. Republicans buy Sasquatch drivers too.

Would rather stand in line at the DMV than play with Padraig.

Don't want to answer any media questions about Eight Belles.

Anthony Kim packs his own ping-pong paddle.

Promised Rick Pitino that I wouldn't walk through that door during his Saturday night rally speech.

Too many Photoshop experts on staff at the Courier-Journal for Elin's comfort.

Nicklaus shaped the 18th green like a horseshoe. I'll hit balls off a hotel rooftop in Dubai as part of my appearance fee, but I won't design a green in the shape of an oil barrel.

Nike isn't making the uniforms.

If Azinger managed to win 12 times on Tour with that grip he doesn't need any assistance.

For those who didn't get the Pitino reference:

Dang, I guess you can't embed YouTube here. Here is the link:

C'mon now, (and I'm not knocking just Tiger here) Why would we think Tiger gives a rat's ass about the Ryder Cup? If he doesn't play his sponsors don't pay him, d-oh. If you don't get a bonus from your sponsors you get a bag, some shirts and caps and teh like. Do these guys need those?

If there's no money in it for these guys they need another reason - like the much-criticised Kenny Perry. He just wants to play in KY. Can't blame him for getting for it that way.

NRH, you're damn close to the late Stu Schneider's level there. More of that, please!
