“I definitely want to be a captain."

A few readers forwarded Michael Buteau's story on Davis Love lobbying for the Ryder Cup captaincy in 2012 and initially I didn't pay much attention, but on further reflection, it is a bit odd that the man who seemed to be a lock for the job is making sure to keep his name out there. Could the PGA be flirting with a certain former captain who really wanted the job again in 2010?

“If you asked me two months ago, I’d have said no, I don’t want to take any chance on screwing up playing,” said Love, who has a 9-12-5 record as a player. “But now I look at it, I don’t want to take any chances on not getting to be the Ryder Cup captain.”

The PGA of America, which oversees the U.S. team, has no specific timeframe on selecting its next captain.

Surely neither Jack nor Arnie want the job for a third time!
So, given the "current" with the players BS, can I (yet again) bring up Larry Nelson??

Davis is a nice chap but as exciting as those darned stripe shirts he always wears.

Please give us someone that ignites some passion. And I don't mean Natalie Gulbis!
Bring him up all day every day, fg! I still maintain that until the PGA of America rectifies that boneheaded mistake the US Team will wander in the RC wilderness most years.
If Davis Love is the Captain of the USA side, expect a total collapse on Sunday, America.

Bring back Azinger. Captain for life.

Cigar Guy for captain in 2012.

Arnie would make a great vice captain.

I know for a fact that Larry Nelson is done done. It's long over due but the PGA ship has sailed on hom.

I know for a fact that the PGA thought about re-naming Zinger never.

Love it will be... and there might be a rainbow at his appointment presser.

If, as you say, it is a fact that Nelson is done,
I would argue that it really means nothing, whoever is named captain.
The PGA of America is NOT keeping "current" players (relevant wise) because of
their knowledge of the players, it is because of their PR relevance. Nelson flew under the radar
as he accomplished more than Wadkins, O'meara, Lehman etc. Including winning 2 PGA Championships for chr**&% sake! Not good enough for the professional organization that has ushered in the demise of its' own profession by making them more managers than golf people. You don't have to be able to play a lick or teach to be a PGA member any more, why would they pick someone who is actually deserving of captaining the US Ryder Cup team?
