Very exciting news. Renaissance Club gets it in 2012.

Outstanding! Simply outstanding!
Far brighter news than what I've seen about the Irish Open.

Seems like the obvious choice to alternate. Why not? Just hope the Highlands don't get crapped up from the exposure by the angry mob invading the nicest part of Scotland.

As long as they don't start changing the course to accommodate the pro's wishes.

Good news for Scottish golf I think.
Just hope they both have the infastructure to hold a big event-the Tour must be happy they have I suppose though.Renaissance doesnt have a clubhouse yet-but then again Loch Lomond didn't when they first went there.
On a much more sinister note Sandy Jones, chief exec of the GBand I P.G.A. has come out and publically said that Trump in Aberdeen will be a perfect venue for a major in the near future.
I am a supporter of the PGA-i've had a good life from pro golf but I nearly threw up when I read thatSo it really is the case that our board would sell our collective souls to the devil.Poor-very poor.

Chico,

Your candor is appreciated. Scary, that the Trumposity Course might be in the rotation...what an environmental travesty that would be. Thousands trampling all over those dunes and degrading an area that never should have even seen a golf course built. Oh well, I guess there are all those good paying jobs that will be created to consider. Please.

@chico: It could be that The Donald will achieve his heart's desire and host a Major there. But THE Major is still the job of the R&A, isn't it? Would they really take The Open to the Trumposity Course? Really?

BTW, sir real wins the month with that neologism!
Ky - It would more likely be the Ryder Cup if the PGA is involved I suppose and thats not a major-but a travesty non the less.

chico ... the european tour will follow the money and morality be damned.

Where Sandy Jones has really stepped out of line and probably had the R&A blazers spluttering into their kummels, is with this comment from The Scotsman ...

"He also believes the golf body, the Royal & Ancient, would want to look at the course for a future Open Championship venue."

If Trump goes after cpos and those homeowners are forced out, it would be a public relations disaster for them to be seen to be in any way connected with such an enterprise, no matter how much time passes.

Besides which, I can't envisage a time when the R&A would ever want to be associated with an individual like Trump no matter how much other people's money he threw at them.
Great news. Speaking of which, maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing if Trump built a links course, it may be the best chance we have of ever again seeing a Ryder Cup on a Links Course. If a Crump could commission a Pine Valley...

I have just been in touch with someone very high up at the Renaissance Club who told me that the venue for 2011 has definitely not been confirmed yet. This is also the case on the European Tour website and the Barclay's Scottish Open site
