Kaymer Surfaces As "True Gent" Looper

The PGA Champion chooses a caddying gig for his girlfriend over the Chevron World Challenge. A photo has even surfaced.

Naturally, the Euro writers are swooning. Matt Cooper writes:

The German could have spent this week chasing world ranking points at the Chevron World Challenge in California but, like a true gent, instead chose to support the aspirations of his girlfriend.

The flight from Dubai to California was also documented on twitter by Ian Poulter and Graeme McDowell: it was a 16.5 hour monster. Fortunately it was a shorter trip from Dubai to La Manga for the golfing superstar turned bagman.

You think if a big name American withdrew from a European event at the last moment to caddy for his significant other he'd be called a true gent?

World ranking points for an 18-men tournament is very silly

Also pretty arrogant to assume europeans would care.......

Oh, Geoff, I'm liking this "them and us" rivalry you are fostering.

Of course, "rivalry" suggests a genuine contest.... ;-)

I think it's a stretch to equate the Chevron with a Euro "event". This Tiger "BS" challenge or whatever it's called is really a silly season, meaningless event. If it's so important, why is Phil Mickelson never there? Do you really think that Tiger would attend the "pet" project tournament of one of the European players? Sure Tiger would love to have all the top players in the world at his silly, fun, few days of wack-fk, to help get the crowds out, but unfortunately he doesn't have that kind of pull anymore....
Plus some of the guys might think he's a philandering pig. Personally all the chicks don't bother me, I kinda respect it.
By-the-way, is Yesper Parnevik attending?

I caddie for my wife evey March at La Manga too-never seems to hit the press though!

I think it has more to do with committing to an event and bailing on it.
Any player, SHOULD be called on skipping out on this type of commitment.

Of course he would.

Hey, as long as it keeps her happy! Besides, she's pretty fab from the pictures I've seen...not that that should make a difference, right? :-)

She's good-looking alright John, in fact, she's nearly as pretty as Kaymer.

For those not in the know, La Manga is in Categna, Spain:

press agent, ask Graeme McDowell if it a "meaningless event".

I'm not sure that the growing chip-on-the-shoulder attitude with regards to Europeans is a good move for this blog. Seems a bit lazy to go down this route, and as a European reader I have to say it's removing the main thing I like about this blog, which is the refreshingly knowledgable and global outlook.

americans don't pull out of european events...because they only play them when they get appearance fees!

Martin ought to tell her to save her money and work on her game. Those scores suggest a player not close to having the goods at present. With a start in the game that late, she'll need some heavy toil to make it.
If she's dedicated she has a shot. I wish her well.

So what, he pulled the plug on Tiger's funny money event...big deal. He obviously isn't on the Tiger grovel-train. Good on 'm!

sir real, if a man gives his word and it cannot be counted on then....

Have to agree with the sentiments posted by McStumpy and Act38.

"Naturally the Euro wirters are swooning"

Oh boy, if we pulled apart the US writers for every time they got a boner over something an American has done then we'd never have time for what this blog is actually good at.

Time to move on Geoff, unless you enjoy the verbal spats from people such as Lawrence Donnegan and Peter Kostis that we have seen over the last few months here.

Would you believe it, another cheap shot at a top Euro! Let's say the scenario goes like this: Kaymer wins the Order of Merit (Dubai, where's Dubai?) and calls his girlfriend feeling pretty top dog. She says "that's great honey, I'm so proud of you, but I'm also really nervous about Q School and wish you were here". MK reflects for about 2 nanoseconds and calls TW to say "sorry but I really need to do this for Alison, I'm sure you understand". If Rickie Fowler or Dustin Johnson had done something like this it would be on the front page of GolfDigest from now until the Masters.

So Geoff, give us a break. Especially since you were complaining only the other day about how TW's gratuitous invitation tourney is ruining the LA Open. Then all of a sudden a Euro withdraws for what looks like a pretty good personal reason and you're acting like he pulled out of the PGA.

They are not golfers, according to Furyk....they are INDEPENDANT CONTRACTORS.....and I'm still waiting for Beem or Estes to bid on painting my house........

What European events do top American have to withdraw from? The Open Championship, and PM at the Scottish Open, courtesy of Barclays. That't it.

NB. Shanghai, Dubai etc. are not in Europe.

Or ... he decided he couldn't face the 16.5 hour flight?
Still European Tour events boasting a field of players who perform on the global stage better than US Tour players. Why? Because the US Tour plays golf courses which promote one dimensional golfers. That"s plain to see.......Shackleford would agree
