2011 Northern Trust Open Final Round Open Comment Thread

This one has possible train wreck/last man standing written all over it. Either way, I'm leaving it up to you to report what you see and, in small doses, what you hear.

There's no rooting in the press center (none! never!), but I can say that if a 51-year-old geezer with a bad back were to win, there will be a lot of jovial scribblers Sunday night.

Given how tedious it is watching Kevin Na putt, we should expect a busy thread. Expect the old guys to give us something to write about, too.

Kevin Na and Ben Crane played a practice round with JB Holmes, and they both walked off the green to the next hole.

When quick players are screwing around because there is no reason to rush, maybe it's time for the PGA 'marshalls' to quit looking for balls in the weeds, and get these guys moving.

TV coverage seems to have been reduced to a couple of cameras around a green, and all the announcers trying to outwit each other with anecdotes, and then finally someone will putt, miss, and the whole deal starts again. Then 8 commercials, then more greensidebla, after having shown 1 full shot, then 8 commercials, and 3 tee shots, 8 commercials, and back to the campfire chat at the green.

A friend called earlier today, and played with some HS coaches yesterday, and said the slow play among their golf teams was terrible, all from TV mimicing (sp?)...and this is with the coaches on thir ass to speed up.

Oh, and I hope Boom Boom wins.

I just heard Kelly T. say, "They call him Boom Boom...and he's started off today Boom Boom Pow"...I am shutting down now and heading off to the tournament to get away from TGC...OMG Kelly.. Did she want us to know how hip she is that she knows about the Black Eyed Peas? Help!

Late again...

Shame to see Fred fall away- surprising that it's been things other than the putter today.

ok I turned it on 8 minutes ago, 2 shots by vijay, a couple of pitch shots by badds and couples, na dropping, and a par putt on 10 by couples on tape, commercials galore, bye bye I turn it off now.

VW...you forgot to mention the pier image as the lead in. That was less than three minutes between commerical breaks.

I tipped one of the Australians to win at the start of the week and so far so good. Aaron Baddley is looking strong but Vijay will no doubt push him all the way. Robert Allenby is not completely out of it as yet either.

It went from unwatchable as VW said to interesting with the double by Baddeley. Could be a good finish if I can make it through the CBS effect.

Okay, the race is over. Time to watch the last 4 holes.

What race? I thought the race for the cup was just getting started?
Just wait til' the Wood Bros. hear about this blasphemy from one of their own......

The galleries are shockingly, pathetically sparse. It's like watching video highlights of the Mid-Amateur--quarterfinal round.

OK, I watched. But only for the Yanni.

CBS pulls coverage at the exact moment of the best television. Priving they have no idea what their audience wants and what product they are selling. Human drama.

CBS has become tired and a self parody- Finch excluded.
The best part of the telecast was Nance saying the next time we see them is the Masters.
Good.

Well, I know who the Wood Brothers are, but I would have guessed that "Trevor Bayne" is the star of a revival of "Baywatch." Good for him and for the Wood Brothers! Might as well start at the top...
Good to see Badds back in winning form. And also good that the telecast cut out before we had to endure his inevitably praise-Jesus-y post-round interview. Love watching him play, though!

The only way I can watch golf on TV is through a DVR. I can watch 3 hours of golf in 1/3 the time by forwarding through commercials, putts and talking head segments. All I have to do is avoid learning the outcome before I watch the recording.

What a pleasure it is to see a player revert to what comes 'naturally' and produce his best golf again. Gone is all that stack and tilt garbage. Returned is the Baddeley we all saw down here as a 19-20 year old. He's still as good a putter as anyone out there - who knows what he might do now that he has been convinced to play the way he used to. Kudos Bann-Lynch. And you too Aaron.

DVR is the present and future of making a statement on televised viewing of golf. Plumbob away boys, the advertisers and sponsors will talk about your purses when the numbers show fewer and fewer people are actually watching those ads.
