Is there an actual algorithm for saying how many spots for so many qualifiers? Both 94 and 48 for 4 spots?

M-

I believed it's based on strength of field.

VJ has withdrawn, so his major streak is over.

Garcia still has to qualify

and Weir continues to play like us hacks, and hes streak is now over too.

Thanks for the links, but the USGA set-up is early internet slow. Brandt Jobe sizzles in his 1st qualifying round, leading at 10-under.

FYI - the USGA added a fifth place to the Glendale qualifier. Stricker winning may have opened another spot for a qualifier.

Stricker was already in the field. He was Top 10 in the world...

@ Matt - that's correct. And that's exactly why it freed up an extra spot...they kept an open spot in case the Memorial winner would have been a multiple winner on the PGA Tour in 2011 and not been otherwise exempt. Since Stricker was already exempt and the Memorial didn't give anybody else an exemption, they were able to give that held spot to a qualifier.
FYI, Stricker was exempt not because he was Top 10 in the world, but because he was in the Top 30 of the 2010 PGA Tour money list.

But more pressingly - Robert Karlsson is exempt, since he was Top 15 on the 2010 Euro money list, correct? He's already listed as a player on the US Open website. Yet, he teed it up in the Maryland qualifier. Am I missing something?

That Robert Karlsson playing is a collegiate golfer -

Ah, thanks Grover. Who could have possibly assumed that there's two Swede's named Karlsson...

I'm an idiot :-)

Unless I'm misreading the scoring, Sergio must have lost out in a playoff in Memphis.

Quite a public service, Geoff. Much appreciated from us little people who get frustrated easily.

A lot of amateurs putting up some terrific numbers. Looks like an inordinately high number of am's to me. SO F'G competitive out there these days! Glad my only responsibilities between the ropes are hoofing the bag and doing the math!! I love the numbers ;o)
