Just heard on Sky Sports - "You wouldn't think anything could ruin the excitement of this tournament today but the Americans and their commercial breaks have managed it."

Lol, watching the same broadcast, mel.
Hey, we just had matching eagles from the Simpson and Donald pairing to tie for the lead...let's go to commercial.

Something must be wrong with Stevie Williams today. He said that he was a great front runner, and when I turned on the TV earlier today he was right at the front,,,,,, now he is 7 back. What could it be??? this ain't like THE Steve Williams.
Does Peter Kostis (bftd) still work with Chez Reavie? I know he did when he won the Canadian Open a few years back. If so good work this season with him.

How many times now has Watney put up 80+ on a Sunday while in contention? Good gracious.
09.5.2011 | Unregistered CommenterDel the Funk
To thump or not to thump...does he?
09.5.2011 | Unregistered CommenterDel the Funk
Of course he thumped...
09.5.2011 | Unregistered CommenterDel the Funk
God hates Chez Reavie

Let;s give credit where it is due: Jebbus!

If someone wins and mentions Allah, Buddha or the Dalai Lama what would people say in response?  Would he be ridiculed of thumping as well?  Would people keep their mouth shut for fear of being called intolerant?  Any chance some may say how great it is that we live in a country where freedom of speech is allowed and should be encouraged?
09.5.2011 | Unregistered CommenterDouble Standard
the buddha and dalai lama are not deities.
09.5.2011 | Unregistered Commenterthusgone
Another choke results in extra play.
09.5.2011 | Unregistered CommenterBaron
So it's the mentioning of deities that is thumping? Mentioning spiritual leaders wouldn't be?
09.5.2011 | Unregistered CommenterDouble Standard
An NBC stat said that this course was the easiest to putt on the PGA tour. I don't recall seeing so many long putts (not the silly long ones') holed over two days. Why would that be? All the courses are pretty much conditioned the same. Not a lot of contour? Easy to read?
09.5.2011 | Unregistered CommenterJohn R
Great. Another W for a long putter. Juuuust greaaaat.
09.5.2011 | Unregistered CommenterJohn C
So. The "playoffs" are proving -- what?

I was out all day. Came in to a Webb v, Chez playoff. Thought I'd entered a parallel universe.
09.5.2011 | Unregistered CommenterKCMG
Hey, at least he isn't blowing people up in the name of God. Plus, after Tiger the scuz, a little wholesomeness ain't so bad.

What happened to #1 Luke "nurse pants, American hater, chicken bone choker" Donald? I keep expecting that cheerleader in the tampon commercial to pop up next to him. Can the #1 guy really fold this much?

Luke, how about a Fresca?
09.5.2011 | Unregistered Commentercalvin coolidge
Chez never had a chance, poor guy. Thump thump.
09.5.2011 | Unregistered CommenterDel the Funk
Clearly talented and perhaps a swell guy, but between the patrician looks, Ivy League name, Polo wardrobe, long putter and glacier pace, Webb is the last guy that is going to draw people to golf.
09.5.2011 | Unregistered Commenterjeff
And then there's the thumpin'...

Chirkinian would have him on the do not interview unless he wins The Masters list.
09.5.2011 | Unregistered CommenterDel the Funk
The play-offs were a lot of fun, good play and shots, and lots of energy.

The bogey by Reavie on 18 was truly shocking. Nobody could figure out why he laid up in the first place, and that was a horror of a wedge shot.
09.5.2011 | Unregistered Commenterelf
the whole FedEx thingy was a cave-in and kiss-up to Tiger Woods...Chez and Webb in a playoff?...the horror!
09.5.2011 | Unregistered Commenterrb
I can’t stand Simpson’s “Lord” remarks even more than Simpson can’t stand Flanders.
09.5.2011 | Unregistered CommenterTXQ
Been busy. Did he thank Jeebus again? And if he did, has someone asked him what he was doing before to prevent Him from helping him? Thunderstorms in the 'hood tonight. I better watch out for lightning bolts...
Webb you won 1 million dollars, now do what Jesus would do and give it all to the poor. You wont cause you are a phony like all the rest of the golf prayin' kind. God bless golf and I am sure sporting events are the first thing on Gods mind when he wakes up in the morning, that and Michele Bachmanns brain, um I meant rear. God bless this great country when you can when 1 million dollars for hitting a stupid ball that goes too far and have some Chez guy hit a horrible wegde shot from 117 and end up with a bogey. May the Lord be with you and live strong and why the hell is the US Open Tennis tourney still going on at 1 am.?
09.5.2011 | Unregistered CommenterHolden Caulfield
Why all the hatin' on Webb Simpson? Haters gonna hate I guess. Not sure what he's done wrong other than play slow. I guess thanking God and using a belly putter will get you crushed around here. Seems like a pretty stand up dude to me.

I like what calvin coolidge said in an earlier post: "after Tiger the scuz, a little wholesomeness ain't so bad."
09.5.2011 | Unregistered Commenterbeagle
Well I've enjoyed the last couple of events as much as any for a while on your tour.Lot of good golf and none the worse for no Tiger in my opinion.A number of very good young players are coming through which is good to see-and yes-Donald was crap on the back nine!
09.5.2011 | Unregistered Commenterchico
Some people get threatened so easily.
09.6.2011 | Unregistered CommenterJohn C
"Donald was crap on the back nine!" Trump is always crap as far as I'm concerned :o)
09.6.2011 | Unregistered Commenterrb
@doublestandard: yes. i have never heard anyone thank pat robertson or the pope after a victory, only el jesus. ergo, your analogy/counterpoint is flawed.
09.6.2011 | Unregistered Commenterthusgone
Just because you say Lord a whole bunch doesn't mean you are wholesome (and just because you don't, doesn't mean you aren't). Reality just as many people who profess to be devout Christians are doing scuzzy thing as people who don't profess to be devout Christians
09.6.2011 | Unregistered Commenterelf
It blows my mind how much hate Simpson gets on here. A young American shows guts down the stretch (and a short game) and he gets ripped to shreds again for a brief religious reference and using a legal piece of equipment. Asinine.
09.6.2011 | Unregistered CommenterJR
Imagine the same "brief religious reference" at the Academy Awards. (For playing Hannibal Lecter, for instance...). It's not Simpson's private beliefs that irritate, it's his robotic public reference to them. And he's far from the only one (do they still have the Wednesday night Christian love-ins on tour?). The sporting public does not tune in to a post game interview to be dragged into a pro forma enunciation of someone's religious mantra. And why is it ALWAYS born-agains? Catholics and Anglicans and all sorts of other members of Christian faiths don't do this -- only these cultists, whose particular brand of Christianity seems to be in lock-step with conservative political and economic dogma.

And elf, last time I looked, it was someone professing to be a devout Buddhist who was doing scuzzy things. That, actually, is his biggest scuzziness of all -- that profession, There is no vestige of what true Buddhists believe in in the way he lives.
09.6.2011 | Unregistered CommenterKCMG
@KCMG my point was that religion has little to do with scuzziness. There are scuzzy and non scuzzzy Christians, Buhdists, Muslims, Jews and Aetheists (etc etc). There are people on this thread alleging that Simpson is wholesome, party bc he professes his faith in the Lord. All I'm saying is that there is no correlation between wholesome and Christianity (or religion of any sort, although in the US we don't seem to say that somebody is wholesome if they profess a faith in Buddhism or Islam, or many other religions, but that's a separate issue/debate).

Sort of on-topic verses for the attractive young Mr. Webb in his next Bible study:

"Therefore when you do your alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward."
Matthew 6:2

"But you, when you pray, enter into your closet, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father which is in secret; and your Father which sees in secret shall reward you openly."
Matthew 6:6

And this perennial favorite from the Good Physician:
"But woe to you that are rich! for you have received your consolation."
Luke 6:2

And Webb? Keep in mind that John 3:16, which seems to be making a comeback on spectator tee-shirts, is the most unfortunate verse in the New Testament.

But keep using that putter! It's within the rules and there is nothing wrong with it.
Way to go, KLG. But the bornies ain't that keen on the NT, as a rule!
09.6.2011 | Unregistered CommenterKCMG
Some people get offended so easily. You'd think he called some groupies to take out a mass of SOB's.
09.6.2011 | Unregistered CommenterJohn C
Freedom of speech is a great thing, and it cuts both ways. Webb is free to express his beliefs on religion and others are free to criticize Webb and his expressions. Both sides have equal and protected rights to do so.

On the golf side, I don't know how often he will win, but his short game seems to hold up really well under pressure.
It's amazing how much hate there is towards people who mention someone who people on here think doesn't even exists. If Webb thanked Santa, the tooth fairy, Easter Bunny or unicorns you would all laugh at him and think he was nuts. Why doesn't mentioning the Lord elicit the same response? Don't paint your answers with a broad brush response by saying no-one has ever killed in the name of Santa etc etc.

@thusgone: I actually posed questions rather stating a counterpoint/analogy. Those questions of course have gone unanswered.
09.6.2011 | Unregistered CommenterDouble Standard
@ S&T Convert

Agreed. But do you really believe it cuts both ways equally? There are so many social topics people will not openly and public criticize/express opinion about because if they do they will be labeled a bigot, intolerant, racist, homophobic, close minded etc etc Slandering/expressing hate towards Christians is just an accepted practice and probably an expected practice now.
