First Thing Rory Can Buy With His Nike Money: The Ryder Cup Crown Vic

In an Onionesque tale of bureaucracy, Marie Wilson says the village of Lombard wants to sell the 2005 Vic that got Rory McIlroy to Medinah on time, but first they have to get to the bottom of a scandal! 

This scary notion that Deputy Chief Pat Rollins drives the car to and from home in case he's called to a crime scene during his off-duty hours. Perish the thought!

Trustees continued discussions Thursday night, but did not come to a conclusion on whether Rollins should be allowed to drive his squad car back and forth between his home about 10 miles from the limits of the village. Village Manager David Hulseberg said the car used to transport McIlroy cannot be sold until trustees address those concerns and authorize the purchase of a replacement vehicle.

In 1999 I was a volunteer courtesy car driver at the Ryder Cup. On Saturday morning Darren Clarke split his pants while warming-up on the range. I drove Heather (RIP) and his replacement pants to The Country Club. She was under the impression that I should risk a ticket in order to spare Clarke some embarrassment - we made it without the need for a police escort.

I don't think Darren bought that Buick.

I was fortunate enough to find a 91 Crown Vic under a tarp at an estate sale. I walked out with for a few grand. It had like 3000 miles on it. Poor fella died after purchase and the widow just threw a tarp on it. Anyways, I drove around like a boss in that thing, terrorizing all sorts of sedans and soccer moms with my metal tank. That thing could hold 3-4 sets of clubs and was the car for some great getaways.

In my playing daze on the mini/micros...I would have dreamed having a CrownVic...or ANY variety of made in the USA "sofa on wheels". I had to make do with a 3-door Ford Escort.

This is big base transportation, and the winner is streaky putter with the 3000 mile estate sale cruiser, not the car that Rory peed in, wondering if he was gonna make it or get DQ'ed.

Nice story David H. I guess we are not gonna get a response on the other, or at least not yet: that old story has legs with a little push.

Seeing the final score, a DQ would have make the cop a hero to all the jingo types- but I just rooted for players, and it was an entertaining show .
