Video: Ahmad Rashad Drinking Game Grand Slam!

The Back9Network officially launched on Monday, and former Morning Drive host and Pastel HOFamer Ahmad Rashad stopped by "The Turn" to promote his cleverly titled show, "Ahmad Rashad."

Rashad was asked about his dream foursome (why didn't I think of that!) and the infamous name dropper managed to get in nods to Tiger, MJ and recent golfing buddy Barack Obama...all in one segment specially wrapped for the Ahmad drinking gamers and bingo boarders who've missed him.

For your consideration...

With great delight I will report that I'm going to be spared this gong-fest because I don't subscribe to DirecTV. And while Geoff is devilishly clever in providing a link to a slice of this self-absorbed ego-pie, somehow I've managed to refrain from the temptation to peek. Somebody please tell me: just WHO wants to watch a bunch of stumbling, information-free, minor league chops sit around and TALK about golf? People, this golf is two things: a game to be PLAYED and a sport to be WATCHED at the highest level. Yet one more show, one more network that promises to chat, gab, kibitz and talk about the game holds precisely zero interest for me. Any wonder why I swore off "Morning Drive" years ago?

How in the hell can golf support a 2nd network on the end of Tiger and Phil's careers? Maybe in 2000 this would've worked. Odd to say the least.

It almost took them that long, Jason. Picture Mickey Rooney and Buddy Hackett piloting the airplane owned by Jim Backus and you have the answer.

Still remember Rashad's first Morning Drive show when he praised the early finish time, stating he could still get in "36 a day".

Glad that was a short-lived experiment. He's a better golfer than broadcaster, and that's not saying much.

D. maculata,
Thanks for that imagery. It fits more than just the topic of this thread.

I've been using "Who's in charge here?" "Ain't you?" as a guideline to explain things, but I am now switching to your example.

Ben- Great post.
Morning Drive is completely unwatchable.
Can't imagine this experiment will last long.
On the other hand, I do give credit to Ahmad for scamming yet another employer...incredible.

It's 2014. How can you launch a non-HD network?

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World"!!!

Thanks D. Maculata for that visual!!

A network has a show - we must counter - regardless of monetary loss

D. maculata: LOVE the "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" reference...my favorite comedy!

So what happens when Ahmad runs through all of his "buddies" and name drops all of his "wannabe buddies?" My guess is A LOT of reruns… A LOT. Why am I not surprised by his picks….

So Mr. Shackelford who is a paid Golf Channel hack, a paid Golf Digest "contributor", an out-of-work golf course "designer" and he trashes Back Nine Network, bashes Steve Elkington's excellent Rural Golfer and bashes the USGA move to Fox TV? Has anyone here read the garbage Golf Digest spews forth in that horrible rag? Does anyone here think there is room for improvement at Golf Channel? Or televised golf in general? Cmon Shack, give the newbies a chance...remember when you first started in this racket? You were'nt very good either.

Rashad is smoking a Cohiba in that photo....thems contraband, son!

I'm gonna wait for that to appear on Amazon Prime. And then wait some more.

It's October 1st. What is the likelihood of this "network" lasting through New Year's Day?

Gabe- Once you step off the plane from the USA you only smoke the real things. I assume he has a passport.

He is the human remora fish. He literally has attached to himself to people of notoriety ever since he was out of football. Proposed to his Cosby show wife on air (her careers long done so so is marriage), sucks on to my as his golfing buddy, Obama (jock sniffer in chief), etc. this network is doa if he and an idiot miss teen hillbilly are your talent.........

With his tripe and name dropping Ahmad Rashad sets the civil rights movement back 100 years
Bob in Hanoi - I realize that. I smoked a Habano every time I go overseas.

The golf channel has its pathetic side. Gary Williams and Eric Kusilias/Gary Williams and Damon Hack. Kelly Tilghman . . . Holly Sonders . . . Terry Gannon . . . Michael Breed . . . Jimmy Roberts . . . Big Break . . . School of Golf. Painfully uncool - all of them.

Then there is the good side of the golf channel and Shack is on that side because he actually knows something about golf - as a person who was a member of really good college teams and as a person who has studied the history of the game and understands what make the great courses great. He has solid takes and doesn't appear lame when giving his takes unlike the others above.

I must respectfully ask for anyone to please spare me the "that's your opinion" canned response. I'll just discard that response as coming from any of the following types but not limited to:

A person who uses iron covers
A person who dances like no one is watching
A person who issues veiled boasts about personal accomplishments on social media
A person who takes charity scrambles seriously
A person who misses the show Friends
A person who stands idly by as his wife tells people that their 4 year-old son Aiden's never-been-cut hair makes him stand out from the crowd.
A person who has been to a seminar where the leader told the audience to give themselves a round of applause for showing up.

I could go on, but if you don't get where I'm coming from then keep eating praying and loving and God bless you for paying it forward.
