ShackHouse 15: The PGA Championship & Jim Nantz

The PGA Championship beckons and we apologize for the late preview push, but we had a very special guest in mind. As we suspected, Jim Nantz of CBS Sports shared some pretty incredible thoughts, insights and opinions.

After House and I make some picks, talk a little Tillinghast, Virginia golf and the lingering good vibes of The Open, Jim discusses a variety of topics from the state of the Big Three, Barry White's Love Theme, the notion of a "call" in golf, broadcast preparation, rules situations, the last two majors and a bucket list course that may surprise you.

We can't thank Jim enough for his time during final PGA Championship broadcast preparation and for his candor and insights. I'm confident you'll enjoy the conversation.

Regarding our picks, I'm all in on J.B. Holmes this week, while House was still formulating his plan when we recorded the pre-Nantz portion of the show. But through the magic of The Twitter, House's capital allocations can be found here, here, here, here, here, here and here.

Nantz was sensational. Fascinating chat. So fun hearing him get to flesh out thoughts and views on the game and TV. Just wish it went longer.

If I had to peg someone to have their own radio show, Nantz would be one of the last. This pod totally changed my views on him. He could talk all day and I would enjoy. Granted, I'll give you and House credit for having him on and getting him to open up, but how cool to see he has views, emotions, and real stances on topics you guys brought up.

Yuuuuuge pod boys. Many, many, many great insights. Made the MeUndies and Calaway ads tolerable! Loved Nantz correcting you Geoff of NFL replay and revealing he hasn't played St. Andrews. Your reaction said it all. While on a long, slow drive, that was just a sensational conversation. I might even watch the PGA now.

Joe House is what would happen if David Puddy took up golf.

Nantz was terrific, it makes me wonder if it is the producers of CBS Sports that has narrow cast him in terms of presentation during the broadcasts as he rarely expresses an opinion and just delivers information.

PABoy,

It's not Nantz's job to express his opinions as the anchor on CBS golf and football telecasts. That's the role of the color commentators/analysts such as Nick Faldo and Phil Simms.

Tom, I get that. I would like to see him tee up Faldo and Simms more often such as "tell us what is going through his head right now..." Instead he just seems to me stating facts too much rather than shaping the dialogue.

Nantes said you got the sense it was over for PM when Stenson dropped the bomb on 14. Would love to ask him why he felt that way. I did too. So much so I had to walk away from the TV because felt it was going to go south for PM.
