Not Trumped! 45 Delivers The Presidents Cup To Team USA

Team USA's victorious 2017 Presidents Cup team received the gold trophy from President Donald Trump who kept his remarks brief.

Golfweek's David Dusek on the presidential arrival and visit.

Things got off to a rocky start when the President hit send on a Tweet that criticized his predecessors.

The full transcript for those eager to relive the moment, the video and the text:

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: They are very talented, and they really are people that have good hearts. I want to congratulate the Internationals.

On behalf of all of the people of Texas, of all of the people of -- if you look today, if you see what's happening, how horrible it is but we have it under really great control, Puerto Rico, and the people of Florida, who are really suffering over this last short period of time with hurricanes. I want to just remember them and we are going to dedicate this trophy to all of those people that went through so much.

And I tell you what, I've been watching this from the beginning, and I have to say our Team USA, wow, did you play well.

That great putter that I've been copying his putting stroke for many, many years, but it hasn't worked; Steve Stricker. We're going to present Steve with the trophy. I want to thank everybody. This is a special group of folks, tremendous money is donated to charity by the TOUR every year.

Stricker said it was a great honor to be the first captain to receive the cup from a sitting President of the United States, Will Gray reports.

The circumstances led to some fascinating scenes, including this sight of Commissioner Jay Monahan having been commissioned by Dustin Johnson and Paulina Gretzky for a photo with Donald Trump.

Equally fascinating was the network moving coverage from NBC to GC for the presentation of the trophy/CUP.

Geoff, your anti-Trump liberalism is showing.

You respect the office, regardless of the person. I did it for 8 years, you can too.
10.1.2017 | Unregistered CommenterSportsDoc
@ Sandy, you might have noticed the network switch was exactly at 6- which was the time slot given for the event in advance.
10.1.2017 | Unregistered CommenterBrianS
Sports doc, you're funny. Actually comparing this 'president' to obama or any others that have held the office.
this bozo is one of a kind.
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterRedneck
Does anyone have less respect for the office than its current occupant? For example, couldn't he have at least put together some coherent thoughts for his "speech"?

The people of Puerto Rico will surely appreciate this news reaching them before drinking water does.

@Sportsdoc - What I don't get is how anyone with a sense of decency, a sense of normality, a sense of sanity, can come close to saying or thinking anything positive about the dotard?

Since we continually 'go there' on here...who would like to cite President Obama's top couple of accomplishments in his 8 years?
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterJS
Context is that I am conservative by nature but couldn't get on board with Trump...waited until a couple days before the election to decide not voting at all was half a vote for the unmitigated disaster that Hilary would be so I voted for Trump. Glad he won but apprehensive about his actual politics and was pretty sure his commentary would leave a lot to be desired.

6 months in, his politics are fine, his instincts are good, but his lack of filter makes him way too easy a target.

Not sure what the next few years will bring other than more distraction from his opponents...

@JS...As someone who is self employed (and has pre existing conditions), Obamacare was a life saver....the health care business is really complicated, and not everyone is going to be happy in a country of 300mm, but at least it was a good start...

I'm independent, and have voted for both parties...I don't understand the vitriol towards Obama - what exactly did he do that was warrants such passion?
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterManku
Do you think the anti Obama vitriol approaches the anti-Trump?

On the topic of your condition; the ACA provided you protection in a way that virtually guarantees the failure of the system itself. In the process of destroying the ability to provide you protection, it will make it impossible for me to find basic coverage as a relatively healthy 42 year old. I suspect you will see that over the next 5 years.

Appreciate you putting up the ACA as an accomplishment but the reality is, that legislation is still in its childhood and I don't think it will achieve adulthood.

How did he do on domestic race or foreign relations?
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterJS
Lol. Respect for the office??? The man in the office now has no frickin respect for it. He invites 2 Russians into it!!! Are you so blind to your own stupidity or are you just a ignorant fool?

Looks like Paulina skirt is shorter than Trumps jacket
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterKeith
I was gonna say Paulina looks like she is wearing a cheerleader outfit. She must have put aside the pom-poms for the photo op.

@JS

Let's put things in perspective. If I remember correctly most of the anti-Obama "vitriol" started with "He's a muslim" or "He's from Kenya". Most of the anti-trump vitriol starts with "He is racist", "He's a moron". And while there is absolutely nothing to prove the anti-Obama vitriol. There are some quality lines from Trump regarding those of other race, religion that while maybe not proving he is racist do leave room for interpretation. So if we compare the anti-Obama and anti-Trump vitriol I don't think that the anti-Obama approaches Trump's I think it is way way worse.
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterElChapin
Manku.

Different perspective I suppose. I too was self employed with pre existing conditions. My wife and my health insurance premiums went from $800 with a $500 family deductible to $1,900 with a $2,000 individual deductible. We have no dependent children, either. That was just for the 2 of us.

And, no, I didn't get to keep my doctors. My GP, yes. Specialists no.

So, no, I'm not a big fan of Reid, Pelosi and Obama, nor the ACA.
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterSportsDoc
For those of you not smart enough to realize it, Trump is a compulsive, pathological, lying con man and a total disgrace to the office of President of the United States.
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterTLB
TLB, any chance you could cite and prove a single lie?
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterJS
@JS

Here is an easy one:

How about his clam that he will not benefit from his tax cuts that repeal the AMT? If you look at the only taxes that have been released (not by him of course) removing the AMT would have saved him 35,000,000 in taxes that year and left his effective tax rate at 3%. I would say that qualifies as a lie.
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterElChapin
@JS. Mexico is going to pay for the Wall (that will never be built). I never had any connections to Russia. Or about the connections he said he did have. Every thing he said about Hillary. Every thing he recently said about Puerto Rico - except it's an Island and there's big (I think he meant huge) water around it. Obama was born in Kenya. I could go on.....
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterTLB
Patches, you out did me. Thanks.....
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterTLB
ElChapin,

Can we agree that we don't have the information necessary to determine that?
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterJS
@JS

Well we don't have it because he lied. He said I will release my taxes and he never did. However, having said that we may not have the information of whether he pays the AMT every year (but he most likely does). We do know however the estate tax repeal will benefit his kids (okay technically it is not him). However, we also know he pays taxes as a pass through corporation and most likely that income is taxed at the 39.6% rate (assuming he makes quite a bit of money) so reducing the tax rate for those to 25% would definitely benefit him. In short 3 lies in 1.
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterElChapin
So he proposes a tax plan that should help all Americans. A reporter tries to bait him with a question about his benefit and we're going to assume it's a lie because it just has to help him?

Again, I voted for him but am not a fan...but I am absolutely exhausted by the energy devoted to attacking him. The politifact link starts with 3 possible lies that each could be summarized as, "we think this is a lie because....but we're not 100% sure". Kind of tiring.
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterJS
Hey, nobody's perfect...

@JS

Help all americans? How? The way I see his plan will increase my taxes. So don't say it helps all americans. There is a big chunk of people in California/New York and many other states with high home prices and high tax rates where his plan will definitely increase the amount of federal taxes paid by roughly 30% of tax payers. But since those states are "blue" it doesn't matter if I increase their taxes and lower them on the richest 1%.

Energy devoted on attacking him? I am simply replying to your posts that lead people to think that the poor guy doesn't bring this unto himself. You never did reply to my comment on the vitriol (of which he himself was one of the main culprits against Obama wasn't he?).

There is a difference between attack and calling out his lies and those of the people that defend him.
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterElChapin
I actually did reply, and it was deleted. Didn't go beyond any of my other posts on this thread...but was from a different device so I suspect these will also be deleted once Geoff revisits the thread.
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterJS
The gist of me reply was; which of his comments can easily be interpreted by you as his being a racist?

Also...in my comment about energy spent attacking him, I wasn't referring to you. I was referring to the print and televised media.
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterJS
@JS

Are you kidding?

Trump has told over 1000 documented lies:https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2017/08/22/president-trumps-list-of-false-and-misleading-claims-tops-1000/?utm_term=.d7768a2204b4

If you researched his tax plan, which is quite easy to do, you would easily see that he has lied about that also and that the wealthy, including him and his family of grifters, will greatly benefit from it, while the middle class will suffer..

What is particularly egregious about your view of Trump is that you voted for him knowing that he started the birther movement and therefore is a racist.

One could easily go on about the con man, but the foregoing should suffice.
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterBuffett
Is that the opening or closing of your contribution to this?
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterJS
@JS

How about saying a judge can't be fair because he is Mexican? Particularly if said judge is American.
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterElChapin
@JS

And don't forget he started his campaign by calling Mexicans rapists and drug dealers. The next day he doubled down and expanded it to include all latinos. I could go on with attacks in muslims and african americans. And the whole birther attack on Obama is a veiled racial attack.
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterElChapin
Not a pretty moment...but the concern was unfair treatment as a result of his stance on Mexico (and their place in the immigration debate, not some belief that people of Mexican decent can't be good judges. The latter would be a racist stance, the former is not. It's trying to protect himself from prejudice. The inability to see that is disappointing.
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterJS
Which attacks on African Americans are you referring to?
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterJS
@JS
I've spent too much time already with someone who wants to remain blind. Paul Ryan himself called it the "textbook definition of racism". I guess we will agree agree to disagree. I consider him biased against those that are not white. You can keep considering him a great president.
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterElChapin
Buffett -- you are an idiot, to put it concisely. The guy who started the birther stuff was Sid Blumenthal, and we have a non-biased reporter from McClatchy newspapers who confirms this. But please, continue spreading fake news, it just confirms what I already know about you pussy hat wearing imbeciles.
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterScott Perez
ElChapin,

What else would you take Paul Ryan's word for?

The example is clear...he was worried about retaliation for his stance on Mexico. You certainly must understand that.

And please keep in mind that I've said from the outset that I'm not a fan so no need to claim I think he's a great President.
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterJS
Just exhausted by the constant assault...
10.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterJS
@JS

Whatever makes you feel better. I am also exhausted by his constant awful tweets and rambling incoherent comments which usually result in the scathing articles. If he actually would stop tweeting. Follow the teleprompter and stop grandstanding he would stop giving material for the criticism.
