Rory, Elkington Go Two Rounds (For Now) On Twitter

The joys of a good Saturday morning Twitter spat to keep us entertained until the leaders tee off many hours from now.

This is following Rory McIlroy's 2017 U.S. Open missed cut...

Elk's son has to be so proud of him. And with the swing Elk had shouldn't he be more disappointed in himself as an underachiever than Rory? Oh yeah, I think that's called projection. And please don't start with the injury and allergy excuses.

Elk brought money into the discussion so it's silly to call Rory a "money guy" for correcting him.

Being the "tough guy" of golf as Elk positions himself is kind of like being the smartest kid in summer school.

After the first round, I got the sense that Rory and Day could retire tomorrow and not miss the game. During Day's presser he said something like, "I prepped really hard for this week. Well not really hard, but..." These two play such limited schedules, and upon the slightest injury are quick to pack it in. Grinders they are not. (FWIW, I'm still a fan)

Notwithstanding occasional whining, at least Spieth shows up to every tournament intent on winning.

Elk's a horses patootie, but always wore nice slacks. Rory's response was his best performance of any kind for the week.

Ya, I'm calling this one for Elk based on his slacks and shoes. Rory put the sport in a bad place. Just look at the ratings. Nobody wants to look at white pants and a neon "shirt".

What's the point of Elk's opening post, other than to belittle McIlroy? I'm normally a mellow guy, but I hope Rory wins the Open by 10 strokes and tweets, "Think again, Elk. Jerk."

Though no fan of Young McIlroy's wardrobe choices, that is a personal decision; furthermore, I would dress in Daly's trousers for the money Nike pays Rory. And when it comes to conduct in public, he may not be perfect, but I have had few qualms with the Irishman.
Elkington, on the other hand, is a different story. His career as a great pro golfer (PGA Championship, 1995) is pretty much over. And every time he is in the news these days, all I can think is "insufferable prick." Poor Steve. Rory's accomplishments in pro golf eclipsed his long ago. Elk is a fine example of the many who should not have a twitter account.

Yep, that summer school line is a keeper.

Amazing how Twitter brings out the Twit in folks who should know better. Rory will never be mistaken for someone who is remotely cerebral nor will Elk will be mistaken for a worldly popular dominant golfer.

But they both appear to believe in the opposite...

Elk's a dick but he ain't wrong. Rory is squandering prime years left and right. Taking Nike's money to play their inferior equipment cost him a year, all the weight lifting has cost him time as it's lead to injury, and hitting the weights instead of the putting green will cost him who knows how much time as he seems to be constantly searching for his touch. It just seems clear, looking back, that the Nike signing was turning point: when he changed priorities from "win everything" to "count money". With his pure talent he can't help but still win but the wins will probably come in seemingly random spurts... like a more talented Kaymer.
