Phil Just Wants To Talk About The Good Times With Bones

With his PGA Tour return at the Greenbrier Classic and last start before The Open, Phil Mickelson is understandably getting asked questions about his breakup with longtime bagman Jim "Bones" Mackay.

Will Gray at GolfChannel.com with the Facebook-like post spin about keeping focused on the good times. However Mickelson did suggest he is looking for something to ignire a still-sound game that has not been able to reach the winner's circle.

"I would say that after having not won for four years, knowing that my game is at a level that is good enough to win but not having done it, I think the one thing is an element of maybe being comfortable with my brother," he said. "Maybe he gets me a little more relaxed and takes a little pressure off me, and maybe I'll play my best that way. But there's no replacing Bones. He's phenomenal."

Sorry Phil. Bones has had nothing to do with you continually missing fairways with your driver and missing short putts like a 10 handicapper. Did Bones make you flub your wedges in the last round at Merion that cost you another US Open? Phil still has the ability at his age to win anytime anywhere. However Phil not winning since the 2013 Open Championship is not Bone's fault. Sometimes the man in the mirror is a difficult foe to overcome.

I've worked for the same company, with many of the same people, for more than 25 years now. I respect my peers and the company tremendously. Do I think though that if I went somewhere else it might give me a shot of energy, a new perspective and possibly the chance to grow more than otherwise ? Yes I do. That is the chance that I see Phil taking.

Just announced Bones is joining NBC / Golf Channel as on-course analyst. Obviously they had this lined up as a career change for Bones and they didn't want to preempt the announcement. Can't blame MacKay for wanting to try something different. Looking forward to hearing him cover tournaments.

Could've this TV job been put together this quickly or was it done awhile ago? Did Bones 'bag' Phil and than they made it mutual?

Shouldn't we also consider Tom Watson for at least some of the blame in Phil not being able to produce a W?

@KPK, I'd put alot more blame on Henrick Stenson for shooting the lowest Open Championship Score ever than TW.
