The division between Golf Channel and Golf Digest for digital content is taking shape. Inevitably, is television a medium that's heading down the same path as the newspaper?

Golf Channel fired John Feinstein to make room for Diaz. Both Rosaforte and Diaz are 61 years old, not exactly the types to inspire the younger audience. I'm guessing Rosaforte's deal won't cost them any extra money and I'm sure they got Diaz on the cheap. Given the weak TV ratings for golf, will other layoffs be in the cards? Not sure there is a big TV market for 61 year old golf "story tellers".

I just wonder how Golf Channel can have so many talking heads when the ratings are so low, maybe save the majors for Golf Central. Learner, Chamblee, Nobilo and Duval are the primetime gang with Notah only there because of Tiger. But look at the roster:

Lisa Cornwell, Ryan Burr, Steve Sands, Kelly Tilghman, George Savaricas, Chantel McCabe, etc., etc., do they really need this many anchors for Golf Central? This list doesn't even include the disaster that is Morning Drive. They have to be paid on the cheap no?

Arnie really liked KT. She caddied for him in the Masters par three at least once. Just connecting the dots.

diaz is quire a loss for Golf Digest. He churned out the profiles and features every month, and of high quality. I hope they retain him as a contributor. This leaves Guy Yocom as the mag's only senior writer, and one man can't carry the load.

@Brandon - Since Comcast owns NBC and Golf Channel perhaps they will assign some of the reporters to other sports. The last couple of nights Steve Sands has been doing interviews on NBCSN at the US Olympic Speed Skating trials in Milwaukee.

As agents of stupefaction, they do seem to be equivalent in that newspapers have finally caught up with TV. In this country, at least. The medium is the message, and the targets of the message seem to be morons, loosely speaking.

Anyway, I get a "free" subscription to GD courtesy of my "membership" in the GSGA. I expect the final issue, any month now, will consist of a cover displaying a photo of one of the current best never to have won a major along with an inside story explaining why this is the year, one page with still one more tip on keeping your head still and eyes over the ball while putting, one last undercover tour guy column in which he outs himself (look forward to that!), the inside back page with the little "classified" ads for plus fours, magic wedges, and cigars, and a back cover with a Mercedes or BMW ad.

Not OT, the other day while cleaning out the magazine basket, I found my saved very last print copy of Golf World...Sad!

Don't even watch morning drive any more. Charley Reimer also the guy who sounds like he's talking to his little kids are really annoying. It is a disaster. Michael Breed was really great, at least he knows golf....and the guy who travels is just boring.

Golf Channel is really losing it...period. Mr. Palmer would be very upset with whatever the people making decisions are doing. Vert sad.
