If We Could Just Get Tiger To Add An Event...

....ya, that's the ticket!

In a Golf World Monday item on the Tiger accident anniversary, Ron Sirak reports that Camp Ponte Vedra and specifically Tim Finchem are feeling the pressure to get ratings up in early 2011 as they head into television contract negotiations. Part of the grand plan is to beg Tiger to add a west coast event.

That ought to really make the networks forget all about ratings decline and the money lost in the last deal.

Manwhile, Geoff Russell follows up on the designated tournaments' demise and quotes a tournament director pinning Tiger and Phil for its fall, while a source in Tiger's camp says the decision came from the tour. Which is probably true. Right after they received word that a pair of certain somebodies were not in favor!

The problem with Finchems thinking is they want an X percent increase from the last contract. In this day and age, nobody is going to offer them that amount, not even the golf channel.

I'm sure slick Tim will package some type of offer but he is somewhat limited because the Ryder Cup and USGA tournaments are under a different contract.

Time for a reality check in Pontre Vedra.

How about a package network deal with another once-high-flying entity -- nascar. Offer synergy: Dale Jr. puts on Rossy's old armor and becomes a foot soldier; Tiger goes to Talladega (and Darlington, and Charlotte) and drives the pace car. Forget cell phones . . . let fans bring in coolers.

If PGAT allowed appearance fees,TW would play more in the early season.

He used to play more early in the season (I seem to remember), but honestly what was the last season he went into healthy? I think it was 2007?

Not necessarily a west coast event Geoff. One of the events Sirak lists is The Honda Classic. And I think that could be the most likely possibility. Now that Tiger is living in Jupiter, the Honda is his hometown event.
