“I threw the hot dog toward Tiger Woods because I was inspired by the movie ‘Drive.'"

Julie Johnson of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat tracks down the Tiger Woods "fan" who hurled a hot dog and ran onto the 7th green at CordeValle, only to be charged with a misdemeanor even after it is now revealed that it was a premeditated attack.

Petaluma's Brandon Kelly, 31, explained his reasoning:

“I threw the hot dog toward Tiger Woods because I was inspired by the movie ‘Drive,'" Kelly said. “As soon as the movie ended, I thought to myself, ‘I have to do something courageous and epic. I have to throw a hot dog on the green in front of Tiger.'”

Paging little men in white jackets.

And here's why it'll happen again:

And in reference to comments at the scene, including by one player, that he could have been harmed by law enforcement, Kelly added: “Did I think I could be shot like some people were saying? Absolutely not.”

Nothing that a little tasering can't fix.

And here's where we learned that alcohol is not entirely to blame:

Kelly posted on his Facebook page Sunday morning a photo of a hot dog in his hand in front of his vehicle's steering wheel and speedometer. It was taken at about 7:15 a.m. Sunday as he drove from his home in Sonoma County to the golf tournament at CordeValle Golf Club south of San Jose.

Petaluma must be so proud of its native son.

What next? What ever happened to course Etiquette, the game is going to the dogs. First the cart, then electronic distance aids now fast food even if you do not want it.

This is just so wrong, it is out of order, today a hotdog what will tomorrow bring, this is actually a very serious event and should be dealt with accordingly. Posting his picture and name is what he wants, so why are we doing it.

Bloody madness, he should have been named and shamed IMHO.

Melvyn
You mean to tell me he got a hotdog through security? If in fact the hotdog in the picture taken in his car is the same one used to attack Tiger then this would be a tragic post-9/11 security breach, particularly happening near the commencement of a presidential campaign. This is like the tumultuous events described in "The Proud Tower"...airplanes, shoebombs, cartel hitmen, now this...HOTDOGS!

On the one hand, he apparently wasn't quite as stupid as a I thought: at least he didn't spend $5 on the hot dog

On the other hand, this is the most bizarre, moronic explanation I have ever heard, seriously, I was drunk makes more sense

To sum it up, guy is an even bigger idiot than I thought

not buying that he was sober....

I was hoping this was just going to be some kind of fraternity hazing prank, and some poor idiot pledge was just doing what a "brother" told him to do.

This guy really is an idiot.

If he is not the first child we may want to reconsider our opposition to China's one child policy.

Is it safe to assume that he lives in his parents' basement?

Here's a (free) business idea for a California lawyer looking for business. Call Ponte Vedra this morning and say "One stop shopping. I'll get a restraining order that prohibits this guy from ever going near a PGA, PGA of America, USGA, Nationwide event...for the foreseeable future." (The USGA surely doesn't want this guy at next summer's Open.)

Then make the same call to the NFL, MLB, NBA, and every university that plays big-time football/basketball. The complaint to the court isn't that a hotdog is a menace but that his bizarre behavior endangers not only athletes but THOUSANDS of well-behaved fans.

Also, not ever going to another sporting event might make a dent in his brain.

He apparently suffers from arrested development, At the age of 31 he is firmly into his adolescence. What a bozo.

Why give this vandal the publicity he so relishes (yeah yeah, I couldn't resist)?I

loved the fact that the cops at the Frys wouldn't give out his name. That must've really burned him. We live in an age where being (in)famous only for being in some way known somehow equates to celebrity. I expect we'll see him on Dancing With The Stars next season.

Some village somewhere is obviously missing its idiot-oh yes, it's Petaluma!

He was smart enough to lay down and surrender before the cop separated his arm from his shoulder. I'm actually sort of amused by idiots who do things like streak at the British Open, walk topless up to Jim Furyk, or jump in lakes. These people are generally just idiots (although, the woman who went up to Furyk, she was paid for the stunt), who either are overcome by the id or the alcohol. But, this bozo, says he was "inspired" to do something courageous by a movie, and this is what he comes up with? Jump out of a plane or something.

We'll be hearing about this guy again. Clearly he is ill.

At least this idiot chose to throw a hot dog and not a banana.

This has to be the first time the words courageous, epic and hotdog have been used in the same quote.

Let's hope he gets close to the max the misdemeanor allows.

How far has Tiger fallen? His discarded apple once went for big bucks on ebay. Now he's getting hot dogs thrown at him. The circle of life.
10.12.2011 | Unregistered CommenterRM
I think Tiger should have kept Steve Williams as his caddy because this type of on course incident will probably become more commonplace. Steve was always Tiger's "Enforcer". Joe LaCava couldn't punch his way out of a paper bag. Tiger, you're screwed!

Man Throws Hot Dog at another Man. Yes when I think of something to do that is Epic and Courageous, my first thought is "Throw Hot Dogs."

Now there is the future of my country. I look forward to his leadership in 2028. This man has a great life ahead of him.

God Bless the USA. Keep Abortion Legal.

Geoff,

It is California again! Is there something in the water that you cook the hot dogs in? Just wondering . . .
