New Year's News Dump: Wozilroy Engaged!

Oh those lovebirds have a sense of humor, sending tabloid writers who wrote of their multiple non-break-up breakups running about to work late into their New Year's Eve writing about the Twitter-announced engagement of Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki. Thanks to reader Matts for the tip.

The Tweet from Rory:

Caroline sent out an identical Tweet three minutes earlier. So technically she broke the news.

Love is blind and marriage is an eye-opener.

I hope they're as well-matched as they appear to be. May they make each other laugh and smile for the rest of their lives.

Ditto- Dig's, Pete's and PfD's.
Rory and Caroline are both top sportspeople, used to a "gypsy" lifestyle, I hope this helps their marriage.
Good for them!

Best of the New Year to all in Shackland! May we all be as successful as Duke has been in the first half against A&M...

The are a cute couple and should have a lot of fun together. Good for them, indeed!

Best wishes to them and everyone here in Shackland for 2014. Once in a while someone reminds me I am old. I just tell 'em it beats the alternative.

And about the Inaugural Southeastern Shack Open, check back for my new KLG email address in the new year. We can do this!

First Paula Creamer's engagement, then Natalie Gulbis' wedding, now this. It has been a big week for announcements.

@EEG -

It was a "special" game, especially if you like offense. I told my wife that Duke wouldn't win at the beginning of the second half - she thought I was crazy. Just figured A&M (although overrated all year IMO) was too good for Duke over the long haul.

As a Teasip, I am sorry to see the Aggies win but in Shackland there is room for all opinions and views. Heck, I'll even root later today for Ky's beloved Bulldogs to destroy those Huskers! Happy New Year to you and remember to Hook 'em!

obvs wish them the best but i have a feeling this relationship is doomed to fail. norman everett part 2. two big egos are bound to cause friction. not enough spotlight to go around. go ahead and doubt me but you will see...

Very happy for them, hope they enjoy a life of love and happiness together!

Happy New Year to all of my friends here at GS! Wishing all of you a happy, healthy 2014.

Hope em the best.

Duke shot a 59 equivalent in the first half, tough to follow up on.

Happy New Year.

All the best to them. With women's tennis careers seldom lasting past age 30, they won't always be on this dual sports star track, which may give them more time together over time. They have stuck it out through some (relatively) tough times for those so young, hopefully that gives them strength.

I'll obviously never know them, but they seem like decent folks and a sweet couple. Good on 'em!

Rick- Hated to see UT fall on it's face, but we just got beat, plain and simple.

I wish them the best and there is no need to fear the worst. Starting the New Year with a Bang, we all should do that. I wish all a Happy and Healthy 2014. Geoff I wish you continued success, your blog and these comments are tremendous fun

With this and starting to settle at least some of his business matters, I wonder if this could mean a big year for Rory

So the Nike win suggests Conor Ridge was in the right all along, no?

Funny how the Oakley guys were jabbering away before but have now gone silent.
01.1.2014 | Unregistered CommenterDTF
They'd be wise to pre-pay for their jet 2014 fuel expenses right now...posthaste!

@DTF: Methinks (re: the Oakley squabble) that Rory and Nike were cleared...but from what I read out of it, it's Rory's former managers and lawyers at Horizon who may need to do some more 'splainin regarding their business practices. As per the Golfweek piece, Nike didn't want any part of any negotiations unless Rory was legally cleared to even start fielding offers. But then it says that Rory's lawyer signed the original Nike contract FOR HIM?! Huh?
01.2.2014 | Unregistered Commenterjohnnnycz
johnny, I presume Conor had some version of power of attorney which allowed him to sign on Rory's behalf, maybe I am wrong. Gonna be real interesting see how the UK based suit Rory has against Conor sorts itself....real interesting.

So Rory has pending nuptials and a big fat lawsuit that both look to hang over his head all year...

...#6 (his current OWGR ranking) is the over/under, what say Ye?!?
01.2.2014 | Unregistered CommenterDTF
Why does anyone watch meaningless bowl games.
01.2.2014 | Unregistered CommenterCharles
Because classics like Duke/A&M and UCF/Baylor have a habit of popping up out of nowhere!
01.2.2014 | Unregistered CommenterDTF
@DTF: Hmm...I'm going to go with "+/- Zero" He'll keep his OWGR position after a roller coaster year in which he spends too much time finding a suitable body-double and a few near misses in the big events.

The over/under on Rors cracking Nike driver faces? More than 10...less than 16 methinks.
