Classic TV's 2015 PGA Championship Shot Tracking

As always Classic Sports TV tracks all of the shots show during CBS's final round of the PGA Championship.

At Whistling Straits CBS averaged 1.05 strokes per minute, a slight decrease--SITTING IN THE HALL OF FAME, AND THE WORLD IS GOING TO KNOW YOUR NAME--over 2014's 1.16 rate.

Oh and the Brooks Koepka, Tony Finau conspiracy theorists will be pleased to have evidence backing their social media complaints.

How many strokes per minute in the Omega Hall of Fame ad ?

I buckled down and ran it on mute at Youtube.

Youtube version was 30 seconds and Rory hit it once.

That is about 2 strokes per minute in the Omega ad..

Haven't read about the conspiracy theories on Finau and Koepka but if it's that they didn't get much air time then count me as one of them. Unfortunately I don't think it's that they have a vendetta against either, the producers just get stuck on certain guys and before they know it, the tournament is over. I guess that's called bad producing, IMO. By the way, as has been mentioned previously, let's hope Captain Haas has his eye on both of these guys (if not qualifiers), as well as Justin Thomas. The days of Mahan, Webb Simpson, Keegan Bradley as Captain's picks should be done with.

Ol' Harv +1 "The days of Mahan, Webb Simpson, Keegan Bradley as Captain's picks should be done with." Amen!

I will add Tiger Woods, Jim Furyk and Phil Mickelson will hopefully not be "sentimental" captain's picks. They make the team only if they earn their way on.....new blood, please! Watching the same players "lose" is not healthy for the future of the RC team. And no Bill Hass as a sentimental pick either Captain Haas.

Need the Koepka's, and Finau's........

The drop off of shot coverage below top 4 players is startling.

+1 Harv, producers decide the coverage before the first ball is hit and cannot adjust to situations that do not fit their "vision" of the round.

If we could compare against Sky Sports stats, that would be interesting. Given the lower commercial threshold (demand), along with more golf shots / minute, then I wouldn't be surprise if they should 50% more shots.

I know everyone is loving Finau and Koepeka right now, but the were really never in contention to win the event. They also showed all of the Par 3's on internet coverage if you wanted to catch them during the round. The last 2 groups were the story on Sunday, no doubt about it.

." The last 2 groups were the story on Sunday, no doubt about it."

No doubt. But does that mean they shouldn't show other shots? If you told the guys who come to this site that at all four majors they were only going to show the last two groups all day, most would be pissed off. More shots is what most golf fans want to see. Not Jason Day at Chambers Bay walking for five minutes between green and tee.

-Ol Harv - look, I agree I want to see more actual golf. The range, walking around, all that stuff is a waste. But they need to skip ahead and let us see all the shots - have cameras on all the holes on line or whatever. If you are a fan of Duffner (for example) literally you might never see him hit a shot the entire tournament on TV. The other thing I thought was ridiculous - why make the "featured group" on line the same group that they are showing every single shot (the Rory/Speith/Zach) on the actual TV feed ? It was just redundant.

The current view from CBS is you have to tell the "story" - which means you see the top 5 or 6 guys or whatever, and watching back door top 10ers doesn't fit that narrative. It is old school, and not so good if you want to see alot, and it needs to change, but I just don't see it changing within the confines of a network TV broadcast viewpoint.
