Video: Nobilo Explains Oak Hill's Graduated Rough

I'll get a firsthand look Tuesday but based on some of the Tweeted photographs and looking at Frank Nobilo's analysis of the rough and select holes I feel like we're in for a repeat of the high rough, uber-plodding golf we saw the last time the PGA was at Oak Hill.

An old USGA 3-stage is reasonable. The 1st cut is what many muni players know as fairway, 2nd cut is Firestone primary rough with half the ball showing. At least they didn't opt for the brilliant strategy employed for the 1995 Ryder Cup to foil the Euros, 1-yd off the fairway and you were in jail. The better drivers of the ball might not keep the head covers on as much as predicted.

I can report from Monday that the primary is medium rare and extra juicy. Lots of shots coming up short. The good news is that if you treat yourself to a $5.50 hot dog or $8.75 cheeseburger ahead of time, should you drop your wallet it will float on top instead of nestling. Wear something crazy on Wednesday so I can say pick you out for a Hello.

Bermanator: I remember my first pga I went to, used my pga card to get in free an into the pro only tent. Than almost left when I saw the price a a coke, opps Pepsi is a sponsor of the PGA, fries and a crappy burger. I wonder if they know how much we make and we can only splurge a few times a year on pricey food like that.

Please don't trick up this layout Kerry! Please! No need to rake the rough. That's not fun to watch and it isn't even real golf. Let the course speak for itself or don't play events there. The graduated rough is a good idea. It looks penal but also fair. Under par is okay. No one cares!!!

@Chris, a man after my own heart. These majors are played on the greatest courses in the world, most designed by Golden Age architects. For the most part these courses will hold their own, contrary to what General Davis and his soldiers believe at the USGA. Let the weather dictate the scores.

I love Nobilo, but what the hell has he been eating? I could not believe it when they showed him walking in the rough.
