2015 Open Championship Final Round Notes & Comment Thread

An extra day should be worth the wait as any number of players stand a chance to win the 2015 Open Championship.

The weather forecast continues to look ominous during the key hours the leaders are on the course, though the gust numbers have come down, mercifully.

The traditional leaderboard.

The final round hole locations are here and maintain the streak of four straight days avoiding Peter Dawson's new second hole bunkers.

Jason...what a shot!

What a great approach putt by Jason Day on 17 -- kudos to him on that one.

Holy smokes....16 under wins outright...-15 will be a great playoff.

Oh oh...Jordan needs a 3 on the last to keep the dream alive.

Do they allow groups of 5 to play at St. Andrews

Jordan...call up to the golf gods real quick
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterNancy
Yikes!! I can't take the tension.

What a setting. You can have Augusta.
07.20.2015 | Unregistered Commenterhighside
Smartest fans in the world don't get the cell phone thing apparently.
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterGriffin
Jeebus...Jordan could use a small miracle on his next shot.
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterJohnnnycz
@press Agent...I can't take it either.
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterNancy
Oh' no!,,,,,,
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterNancy
I guess ball does not go too far on 18.
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterV60
GUTTED FOR HIM. HE'S AN ABSOLUTE CREDIT TO THE GAME
07.20.2015 | Unregistered Commenterchico
It was a cell phone? (I'm watching Spanish ESPN and listening to OpenLive Radio)
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterKLG
That 4-putt was a killer for Jordan.

Griffin, had the same thought.

Hope Jason knocks it in....
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterDTF
Too bad. A valiant effort. the 4 putt on 8 was a killer. I bet if he'd come over a week earlier, he would have had a better judge of the speed on those 100 footers.
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterPlay It Forward
To bad, so close....very exciting.
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterPress Agent
How many times can Day come so close with out getting one?
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterGriffin
Golf is cruel...Jordan and Jason!
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterNancy
The open, always the best major
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterV60
Also, having to go out Saturday morning in the %&%'ing wind also cost Spieth a shot. Thanks, R&A.
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterRickABQ
Obviously don't know what would have happened if he wouldn't have had to stop mid swing but it kind of sucks that he did have to stop. Such a basic fan thing just baffles me.
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterGriffin
Wonder if cell phone crap threw off his focus.
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterNancy
Louie!!!!!!!!!! Now knock it in!!!
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterJohnnnycz
I don't think so Nancy, I think it was more over-calculation for having mud on the ball. Without the mud on the ball, I think he would have played further left and been stiff for the putt.....
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterPress Agent
Have they even said what the playoff holes are? 1,2,17,18 right?
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterGriffin
Louis gets the trophy for having to play with tiger stinking it up at chambers and playing with the kid today
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterV60
Great effort, Jordan. Even with the last stroke of your tournament, you kept your composure and gave yourself a shot at winning your third major this year.

In the coming days I don't expect to hear the media second-guess your decision to honor your prior commitment at the Deere, but if they do - they should be forced to turn in their media credentials.

Well played, young man.
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterPA PLAYA
Didn't Palmer and Nicklaus both come up one shot short in the Open in their Slam attempts also?
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterGriffin
Griffin, counting today Sergio has 20 top-10 finishes in major championships including 10 top-5's....the number of times for Day might be limitless.

Great putt Ooosty!!

Another "fan" screams out as Dunne is about to hit causing him to have to back off.
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterDTF
@V60...best comment.
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterNancy
Fans letting themselves down badly at 18- poor. I'm not a Zach fan-not sure why- and I'm a huge Oosty fan but after all thats happened to him this year I'm going to root for Leishman. that would be a great story. Now for1,2,17,18!
07.20.2015 | Unregistered Commenterchico
Yes!!!
This has been something else.
Crummy routing for the playoff (One? seriously?). They might want to revisit that idea...
07.20.2015 | Unregistered Commenterdbh
DTF,

Yeah I suppose Sergio is the cautionary tale but Phil is the positive example of many, many close calls and then winning several.
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterGriffin
dbh, all the fans are down by 18, doing it this way means people in the stands can see 1/17/18 at least.

which holes do you suggest?
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterStiggy
Yes, the Saturday Morning Charlie Foxtrot apparently did have an effect on the outcome...Golf is like life in that regard. Fair has nothing to do with it.
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterKLG
Great thing is that wonderful announcer came back again to hear him one more time.
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterNancy
Was just thinking the same thing. Nice coda for Ivor!
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterKLG
And he got to say Louis Oosthuizen again!!
07.20.2015 | Unregistered CommenterGriffin
@stiggy, I get it from an infrastructure level. It's just such a relatively bland hole. 4 hole stroke aggregate mitigates things I'll admit....
