2015 Open Championship Final Round Notes & Comment Thread
An extra day should be worth the wait as any number of players stand a chance to win the 2015 Open Championship.
The weather forecast continues to look ominous during the key hours the leaders are on the course, though the gust numbers have come down, mercifully.
The traditional leaderboard.
The final round hole locations are here and maintain the streak of four straight days avoiding Peter Dawson's new second hole bunkers.

**Just in from a walkabout of the entire course and the front nine is there for the taking, while the back is currently playing incredibly tough (as some of the early tough starters have shown). The hole locations at 11, 12 and 13 will make that stretch unusually difficult.
The crowds are large considering the Monday situation and weather, but the only food options are coffee and ice cream (no pints). The 18th hole grandstand is also developing into an embarrassing situation, as all public stands have been full since 10 am while the reserved section immediately above the green remains empty as of 2 pm.

What a PRO in more ways than golf,
The problem with your Phil comparison is Phil was an accomplished tournament winner, as are Sergio and Westwood (and they still never clipped one). That is not the case with Day, he's only won 2 tourneys (both lower tier) in his entire career. Heck, Bill Haas has triple that number.
Folks, I think the torch has been passed. Ror's had it in his hands for a brief period but Jordan has full control of it now. Given Jordan's seemingly unparalleled maturity, preparedness, steadiness, level headedness, even-keeled nature, complete repertoire of shots, and ability to rise to the occasion...over the next 5 years I think Jordan wins 4 or 5 for each win Ror's chalks up. Anyone up for some "footy"?!?
15-16-17-18 would be a pain to get to.
Not really trying to make a case for Day here just playing devil's advocate. Day is also only 27 and Phil was two months shy of 34 when he won his first major so he could pick up a few more wins. Westwood also didn't start getting really close in the majors until his second act after the slump so he was in his thirties so I would say that all three comps (Garcia, Mickelson, Westwood) have some flaws. The other thing about Day is his seeming constant injury and illness woes that while often relatively minor are a little odd for such a young man.
If I'm betting I would say Day will win a major eventually but the scar tissue builds and builds...
Go Louie!!!!
One is a WGC event, the others are the Byron Nelson and the Farmers Insurance.
Not sure how to categorize "lower tier" but the Farmers Insurance was worth 52 World ranking points (compared to 60 for winning The Memorial and 46 for winning at Pebble Beach).
The Byron Nelson he won, however, was only worth 38 World ranking points.
The WGC Matchplay (for which he got 72 World ranking points) is a limited field event but is hardly "lower tier".
I never thought I'd say this but both Curtis and Azinger seem to have grown into the job. It's like they've both discovered their own personal strains of medical marijuana, and have effectively lobotomized themselves. They're completely harmless.
I've been so focused on the golf I didn't even notice a hot air balloon crew using the back of our range for an emergency landing.
Adam Scott - such free flowing swinging, yet so reliant psychologically on a band aid putting style and caddy. Such a shame.
For God's sake - GET ANOTHER INTERVIEWER! Let Judy interview instead of that clown. Please.
Griffin, Westwood had 4 top-10's in a 12 major stretch between '97 Open and '00 US Open. There's no doubt Jason Day has the physical tools to win a major...the intangibles are what is in question. I mean he had a putt for the playoff and the next one didn't matter at all and he left it short?!? Hell that's worse than 3-jacking from 12 feet with a major on the line in my book.
Congrats to Zach Johnson and The Chickenman!! Well done boys!!!
